John Drengenberg -- Director of Consumer Affairs

John Drengenberg is consumer affairs director at UL, an independent product safety testing and certification organization.

Throughout his career, John has conducted thousands of print and broadcast interviews covering countless product safety subjects including wiring safety, mattress safety, holiday safety, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide awareness and campus fire education. In 2007 alone, John conducted more than 300 interviews and was named the PR News 2007 Spokesperson of the Year. He has appeared on major market and national programs including "Good Morning America," "The TODAY Show," "Dateline NBC," "Ask This Old House," "AP Radio" and "CNN Radio" among others.

John has long been involved in issues affecting consumers representing the United States as the technical advisor at International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) meetings related to the safety of household appliances. He also represents UL at the American National Standards Institute's Consumer Interest Council and at the International Consumer Products Health and Safety Organization. Other responsibilities include co-chairing the Chicago Consumer Sounding Board and representing UL at the Consumer Federation of America Consumer Assembly.

A 40-year veteran of UL, John began his career as an assistant engineer. His natural candor and genuine concern for consumer safety, award John an innate ability to build rapport with broadcasters and editors alike. He translates complex product safety issues into easy-to-understand rhetoric reporters can publicize -- a skill not commonly found among engineers.
