CERTIFICATION MARKS

A ULC or UL mark on a product means that ULC or UL has tested and evaluated representative samples of that product and determined that they meet ULC/UL's requirements. In addition, products are periodically checked by ULC/UL at the manufacturing facility to make sure they continue to meet ULC and/or UL requirements.

 The C-UL-US Mark
This Mark indicates compliance with both Canadian and U.S. requirements. The Mark is optional, but we encourage those manufacturers with products certified for both countries to use this new, combined Mark.

C-UL-US Classification
This classification marking is used for products going into the Canadian and U.S. marketplace. It shows that compliance with both Canadian and U.S. requirements for classified products has been met.

Component Recognition Service for Canada and the U.S.
The Mark may be used on components certified by UL and ULC to both Canadian and U.S. requirements.

The ULC Mark
The ULC Mark is nationally recognized for many specific product categories, including building materials and fire protection and suppression products.

 The C-UL Mark
The products with this type of mark have been evaluated to Canadian safety requirements. You will see this type of Mark on appliances and computer equipment, vending machines, household burglar alarm systems, lighting fixtures, and many other types of products.

Canadian Classification
This classification marking is used for products intended for the Canadian marketplace. It shows that ULC / UL has used Canadian standards to evaluate the product for specific hazards or properties. Examples of C-UL Classified products include air-filter units, firestop devices, certain types of roofing systems, and others.

Recognized Component Mark and Canadian Recognized Component Mark
These are marks consumers rarely see because they are specifically used on component parts that are part of a larger product or system. These components may have restrictions on their performance or may be incomplete in construction. The Component Recognition marking is found on a wide range of products, including some switches, power supplies, printed wiring boards, some kinds of industrial control equipment and thousands of other products. Products intended for Canada carry the Recognized Component mark "C."

U.S.A.

 UL Listing Mark
This is America's best-known and most respected conformity assessment mark. This Mark is seen commonly on appliances and computer equipment, furnaces and heaters, fuses, electrical panel boards, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems, personal floatation devices like life jackets and life preservers, bullet resistant glass, and thousands of other products.

U.S. Classification Mark
This mark appears on products, which UL has evaluated. Products carrying this mark have been evaluated for specific properties, a limited range of hazards, or suitability for use under limited or special conditions. Typically, products Classified by UL fall into the general categories of building materials and industrial equipment. Examples of types of equipment Classified by UL include immersion suits, fire door and protective gear for fire fighters and industrial trucks.

EPH Product Mark
The UL EPH marks appear on products that have been evaluated to Environmental and Public Health Standards. The "Classified" version is used for products complying with ANSI/NSF Standards and other food equipment hygiene codes and requirements. Examples include Food Service and Meat and Poultry Plant Equipment and Drinking Water Additives. The "Listed" version is typically used for products complying with UL's own published EPH Standards for Safety.

Supplemental Food Service Product Mark
The supplemental UL Food Service Product Mark is optional. This mark may only be used as a supplement to the EPH Mark appearing elsewhere on the food service equipment. Equipment bearing the Mark is not limited to electrical products, but also includes gas appliances and non-powered equipment. These products are commonly found in commercial food establishments, institutional food services and other locations.

Field Evaluated Product Mark
A Field Evaluated Product Mark is applied to a product that is thoroughly evaluated in the field instead of UL's laboratories or the manufacturer's facility. If a product has been significantly modified since its manufacture or the product doesn't bear any third-party certification mark, a building owner, a regulatory authority, or anyone else directly involved with the product can request that UL conduct tests in the field on the specific piece of equipment. Products that meet appropriate safety requirements are labeled with a tamper-resistant Field Evaluated Product Mark.

Marine Mark
The UL Marine mark appears on products that have been evaluated specifically for marine use. Products bearing this Mark have been evaluated to UL's published Marine Safety Standards and other applicable standards and codes. These requirements address hazards that can occur as a result of exposure to harsh marine environments such as vibration, shock (impact), ignition protection, water ingress and salt spray corrosion common on pleasure craft and boats. Examples of the type of equipment suitable for the UL Marine Mark include alternators, battery chargers/power inverters, navigation lights, and fuel tanks, filters and pumps.

Mexico

UL is the only worldwide certification organization having agreements with Normalizacion y Certificacion Electronica (NYCE) and Asociacion Nacional de Normalizacion Certificacion del Sector Electrico (ANCE) to help you obtain the Mexican NOM (Normas Officiales Mexicanas) mark for electrical products, gas appliances, wire and cable, electronic, and telecommunications products.

 Argentina
 AR-UL Mark
Used in conjunction with the mandatory "S" Mark of Argentina's National Office of Internal Commerce (Direccion Nacional de Comercio Interior, or DNCI) the "AR-UL" Mark Resolution 92/98. Most electrical and electronic products entering Argentina will have to display the "S" Mark adjacent to the Mark of an accredited recognized third-party certification organization such as UL de Argentina, S.R.L.

International

 International "emc-Mark"
The International "emc-Mark" appears on products meeting the electromagnetic compatibility requirements of Europe, the United States, Japan, Australia, or any combination of the four. In the United States, some types of products can't be sold without proof of compliance to U.S. electromagnetic compatibility requirements. The types of products that are subject to EMC testing include medical and dental equipment, computers, microwave ovens, televisions, radios, transmitters, and radio-controlled equipment.

CB Scheme
As a participant in the international CB Scheme, ULC can help you obtain national product safety certifications in more than 30 countries in North America, Europe and Asia.

The CB Scheme is an international network of product certification organizations, called National Certification Bodies (NCBs), established by the International Electrotechnical Committee for Conformity Testing to Standards for Electrical Equipment (IECEE).

The CB Scheme allows for mutual acceptance of test reports for product certification at the national level.

ULC can evaluate a number of CB Scheme product categories to their corresponding IEC Standards and national variations, including:

Information technology and business equipment (IEC 60950)
Medical devices (IEC)
Testing and Measurement equipment (IEC)

Europe

Get your ticket to Europe's most desirable markets - with one stop
With one product submittal, any member of UL's global family of companies can deliver product acceptance throughout North America and Europe better than any other third party certification provider currently available.

The DEMKO Mark
UL-DEMKO provides the DEMKO Mark, a global market gateway accessible through UL-DEMKO's full membership in the CB Scheme as a National Certification Body (NCB) signatory in Europe. The DEMKO D-Mark provides cost-effective access to national marks around the work and, because of its international acceptance, it inspires confidence in consumers and retailers worldwide.

Keymark/ENEC Mark
UL-DEMKO can test and certificate for the keymark and 'European Norms Electrical Certification' (ENEC) Mark. Both are pan-European safety marks; keymark for household appliances and ENEC for luminaries, their components, IT and electronic products, some transformers, and power supplies.

These marks are open to manufacturers worldwide who wish to access European markets. Both marks are voluntary and can be used in place of individual European marks to show compliance through third party testing to European Norms. UL-DEMKO's international D-Mark can be applied in conjunction with Keymark and the ENEC Mark free of charge.

GS Mark
It is difficult to sell products in or near Germany without this Mark.

The GS Mark shows compliance with both European Norms and German national deviations. Major German industrial bodies support the GS Mark. ULC can provide clients with the GS Mark via UL's Asian and European operations.

GOST-R Mark, Russia
ULC can obtain the GOST-R Mark through a direct relationship with Russia's GOSSTANDART and the Russian NCB for electrical products, GOST Re. We are adding agreements to obtain other mandatory Eastern European marks rapidly.

 Supervised Manufacturer's Testing (SMT)
As part of the global CB Scheme and the regional CCS and NCS Schemes, UL European subsidiaries are authorized to arrange for certain client manufacturers to perform their own certification tests, in their own labs, under supervision of a qualified engineer. These special arrangements can be made through any of UL's global family of companies.

Keymark/ENEC Mark
Agreed under the global CB Scheme and European CCA and NCS agreements, this service allows for testing to be conducted on clients' manufacturing premises. Originally designed to test equipment too costly to transport, TMP can now be arranged for many product categories. A qualified engineer conducts appropriate tests using portable equipment or the manufacturer's own calibrated instruments. TMP and SMT are special tools UL's family of companies offers to ease product access to European and other markets.

Asia

China
Through our international network, we can provide testing and evaluation of products to Chinese national safety requirements for the 'Great Wall' Mark authorized by the China Commission for Conformity Certification of Electrical Equipment and the CCIB Mark authorized by the State Administration of Entrance and Exit Inspection and Quarantine.

Japan
ULC can evaluate certain construction material products for export to Japan.

ULC can arrange to have products evaluated to the Japanese DENAN scheme and obtain certificates of compliance through UL.

ULC can arrange to evaluate and certify plumbing products to Japanese Water Association standards through UL.
